The Literacy Coach serves as a vital instructional leader who primarily supports classroom teachers by building teacher capacity through the modeling of lessons, co-planning lessons, and providing actionable feedback for student growth. The Literacy Coach will support schools in implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Support in Reading, Tier 1 instruction, Tier II intervention, and data-based decision making. The coach will support staff in reading assessment and instruction content, skills, and practices that improve student achievement.
Desired Skills
The Literacy Coach should have the following qualifications:

• Expertise in beginning reading instruction based on the science of reading
• Ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality with staff
• Skilled at pivoting strategies based on the specific needs of a grade level or individual teacher
• Experience implementing components of an MTSS framework
• Experience with administration and interpretation of screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments, including working with associated online data systems
• Prior coaching experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Familiarity with Billings Public Schools policies and practices, including the current reading program, Wonders
• Demonstrated punctuality, preparedness, organization, and commitment
• Knowledgeable about current and past research in content areas and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching role
• Design and facilitate engaging PD sessions on topics like the Science of Reading or Writing Workshops
• Lead "data meetings" to interpret universal screening and diagnostic results.
